Constitution

First edition (September 2004)

The witness of this Church may be born and carved out in accordance with scriptural doctrines; that worship, teachings, ministry and fellowship may be conducted in harmony with Christian principles, and that its business affairs may be administered in an orderly fashion and in a responsible manner consistent with Biblical teachings.

We do adopt and set forth this constitution.

The Lord instructed Pastor David to build a church in the heart of Birmingham, running with the message of truth to everyone that comes into contact with Word Life Centre, an established Centre of Excellence for God.

Statements of Belief

vision

Building a church in the heart of Birmingham, teaching and preaching the Word of God to His people, taking the message to the ends of the world.

Running with the message of truth to everyone that comes in contact with us, establishing a Centre of Excellence for God.

It is the vision to reproduce and train leaders in the Church and multiply the dynamic life in such a people of power, through planting other churches that will embrace the vision to the glory of God.

We will achieve this goal, being outstandingly proficient, faithful and available to reap that which has been harvested.

Local purpose and mission

PURPOSE: To love God with our hearts, souls, and minds, and to love our neighbours as our selves.

MISSION: To help bring others into a loving relationship with God; and to help them grow in their love and knowledge of God.

Mission Statement

Attaining a lifestyle of excellence in worship, giving, living, witnessing and Christian Service, expressing the Lordship of Christ and the authority of scripture.

Ephesians 4:12:

'For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the Body of Christ.'

Tenets of Faith

The Word Life Centre accepts the scriptures as the revealed will of God, and adopts these statements of fundamental truths and doctrine.

  1. The Bible is the inspired Word of God and the revealed will of God (2 Timothy 3:15-17; 1 Peter 1:23-25; Hebrews 4:12).
  2. There is one true Godhead comprised of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. All are co-equal and co-eternal (Matthew 28:19; 1 John 1:1 & 14).
  3. Humans are created in God's image. By voluntary transgression, humanity fell, and our only hope of redemption is in Jesus Christ, the Son of God (Genesis 1:26-31 & 3:1-7; Romans 5:12-21)
  4. Salvation of Humankind
    1. Our only hope of redemption is through the shed blood of Jesus Christ. On the cross Jesus Christ became sin and sickness providing both salvation and healing for all humankind (Psalm 103:3).  This salvation comes by believing in your heart that God raised Jesus from the dead; and confessing with your mouth Jesus as Lord (Romans 3:24 & 10:8-10; Ephesians 2:8).
    2. The inward evidence to all people is the direct witness of the Spirit (Romans 8:16). The outward evidence to all humans is a life of true holiness and love (1 John 3:23; John 13:35).
    3. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ and not by human works; however, our works are evidence of our faith and will determine our rewards in eternity (Romans 10:9-10 & 14:10-12; 2 Corinthians 5:10; Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 3:5-7; James 2:18).
  5. Baptism in water is a declaration to the world that a believer has died with Christ and that they have been raised with Him to walk in the newness of life (Matthew 28:19; Acts 10:47-48; Romans 6:4).
  6. The celebration of the Lord's Supper (or Holy Communion) by eating of the bread and drinking of the cup is a remembrance of Jesus (1 Corinthians 11:24-30).
  7. All believers are entitled to, and should ardently expect and earnestly seek, the promise of the Father, the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, according to the command of Jesus Christ. With this comes the endowment of power for life and service, the bestowal of gifts and their uses in the work of the ministry. This experience is distinct from, and subsequent to the New Birth (Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4-8, 2:38,39, 10:44-46, 15:7-9; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31).
  8. The evidence of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is evidenced by the initial physical sign of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance, and by the subsequent manifestation of spiritual power in public testimony and service (Acts 1:8, 2:4, 10:44-46, 19:2,6).
  9. The Church is the Body of Christ. Each believer is an integral part (Ephesians 1:22 & 2:19-22; Hebrews 12:23).
  10. Total Prosperity
    1. Spiritual (John 3:3,11; 2 Corinthians 5:17-21; Romans 10:9,10).
    2. Mental (2 Timonthy 1:7; Romans 12:2; Isaiah 26:3).
    3. Social (Proverbs 3:4).
    4. Physical (Isaiah 53:4,5; Matthew 8:17).
    5. Financial (3 John 2; Luke 6:38; 2 Corinthians 9:6-10; Philippians 4:19).
  11. Blessed hope in Jesus coming to gather all His saints to Heaven (1 Corinthians 15:51-52; 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17; 2 Thessalonians 2:1).
  12. Those who have not accepted the redemptive work of Jesus Christ will experience eternal separation from the Godhead (Revelation 19:20 & 20:10-15).
  13. The Millennial Reign of Jesus: the return of our Lord Jesus Christ with His saints from Heaven to rule and reign for one thousand years as the Scripture promised (Romans 11:25,27; 2 Thessalonians 1:7; Revelation 19:11-16 & 20:1-7). After this, there will be a new earth (Revelation 21).

Core Values Statement

The core values of the Word Life Centre include being a force of Evangelism in the city through holistic outreach; providing a worship Experience which is multi-ethnic and relevant; Equipping people to live a life of intimacy with God; Empowering people to be kingdom-minded; and actively Engaging in spiritual warfare against injustice and strongholds which keep people and communities from being whole.

To Evangelise

'... a force of evangelism in the city through holistic outreach' (1 Thessalonians 5:23)

The Word Life Centre will take a holistic approach to outreach and evangelism, which means that we need to be concerned about the whole person.

Jesus cared about both the spiritual and felt needs of people. He talked about the Holy Spirit, faith, and salvation, and lifestyle change, but he also healed diseases, cast out demons, brought dignity to people's lives, and empowered the outcasts.

We must live in the balance, tension, and ministry methods of Jesus, by being holistic as we care about the whole person, spirit, soul, and body.

To Experience

'... a worship experience which is multi-ethnic and relevant' (Revelation 7:9-12)

It is our desire that the worship experience of the Word Life Centre will serve as a sneak preview of heaven as laid out in the vision given to John in Revelation 7:9-12 – a worship experience that is multi-ethnic as it uses worship, drama, dance, and preaching to call humanity to oneness.

Through worship we can set the stage for the preached Word through dealing with relevant issues that people face on a daily basis; and acknowledging issues and conflict in the wider world. The worship experience will also show that God deals with real people, communities, and issues.

To Equip

'... equip people to live a life of intimacy with God' (2 Corinthians 5:16-20)

Jesus was asked about the greatest of commandments from God. He replied simply to love God with everything that we have, and to love others as ourselves. Later Jesus gives His life to die on the cross, and is resurrected from the dead. This is so true intimacy and reconciliation with God and one another would be possible.

When someone comes to the Word Life Centre, it will be more than just a great worship experience that they will encounter. They will also see opportunities to respond and grow deeper in the knowledge that God loves them. They will desire to live a Spirit-filled life that affects their spirit, soul, and body.

To Empower

'... empower people to be kingdom-minded' (Matthew 9:37-38; 1 Timothy 4:12-14)

There is a need for a Christ-centred, multi-ethnic, and Spirit-filled army of believers committed to living out their purpose in the city. The young and disillusioned must be empowered in the church to know that they have the gifts, talents, and abilities to make a revolutionary impact for God.

To truly be a collective royal priesthood and a holy nation, believers must have clarity around issues, spiritual gifts, and callings.

With this kind of revelation and understanding we are truly able to be the Body of Christ in the world, and are empowered to live out the Great Commission (Matthew 28).

To Engage

'... engage in spiritual warfare against strongholds and injustice' (Ephesians 6:11-13; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11)

Jesus took a holistic approach to the transforming of lives. Jesus addressed issues of eternal life, demonic oppression, disease, and even soul issues such as pride. Jesus also withstood the temptation of the ultimate adversary, Satan.

To truly experience life to the fullest, the church must take a warfare approach to fulfilling our mission and purpose. We must authentically claim spiritual gifts as effective tools for the building of God's Kingdom on earth.
